Palm Sunday: Welcoming The King

What was going on in Jerusalem on the day recorded in John 12:12-19? Why were there crowds? Why did the crowds get excited about Jesus coming? What was all the fuss? What were they claiming about Jesus? Why was there opposition from the religious leaders? Why didn't the disciples understand everything when it was happening?

More to the point, what are we supposed to learn from this account of Palm Sunday - and how do we implement it in our lives?
